Photographic portrait of Edmond Rostand taken by Otto Wegener, contemporary albumen print in cabinet card format. A trace of moisture in the lower margin and rubbed corners with small pieces missing, not affecting the image. Handwritten dedication by Edmond Rostand, dated January 1901 in Cambo-les-Bains at the bottom of the photograph. After the success of L'Aiglon in 1900 Edmond Rostand, suffering from pleurisy, took refuge seeking a thermal cure at Cambo-les-Bains in the Basque Country. Charmed by the region, he acquired land and built the sumptuous Arnaga villa, today a museum dedicated to the playwright. A very beautiful portrait, taken only a few months before Edmond Rostand's election to the Académie française.
