New edition, one of 80 copies printed on grand vélin raisin. Work illustrated with 5 portraits as frontispieces to the first four volumes and 37 figures hors texte. Half Russian leather bindings with corners in plum, spines with four raised bands set with fleurons, gilt fillets and roulettes, headcaps and joints very lightly rubbed, marbled pebbled paper boards, some corners slightly bumped, marbled pebbled paper endpapers and pastedowns. Contemporary or very slightly later bindings. The two frontispiece portraits in the first volume are engraved after Hyacinthe Rigaud, the other plates being engraved by Leroux, Müller, Longueuil etc., after Borel, Desenne or Moreau le Jeune. Some plates are in double impression. Occasional foxing. Very handsome copy perfectly established in binding.
