    First collected edition of Regnard's works. This edition reproduces the text from the original editions but without the title page. The first edition of Le Légataire universel, dated 1708, and La critique du légataire, also from 1708, were added at the end of volume II. The edition contains an engraved half-title, a frontispiece for each play in volume I, a frontispiece for Democrite and one for Les Menechmes. It appears that the one for Les folies amoureuses is missing. Le légataire universel has a frontispiece and a title vignette. According to Brunet, these works appeared in 1714 with a title page dated 1708.

    New edition, one of 80 copies printed on grand vélin raisin. Work illustrated with 5 portraits as frontispieces to the first four volumes and 37 figures hors texte.
    Half Russian leather bindings with corners in plum, spines with four raised bands set with fleurons, gilt fillets and roulettes, headcaps and joints very lightly rubbed, marbled pebbled paper boards, some corners slightly bumped, marbled pebbled paper endpapers and pastedowns. Contemporary or very slightly later bindings.
    The two frontispiece portraits in the first volume are engraved after Hyacinthe Rigaud, the other plates being engraved by Leroux, Müller, Longueuil etc., after Borel, Desenne or Moreau le Jeune. Some...

    The finest and most complete of the editions of Regnard, when it contains the fifth and sixth volumes, printed in small numbers (as Cohen indicates), and which are rarely found together with the first four. It is illustrated with a portrait of the author by Rigaud engraved by Tardieu and 11 fine figures by Moreau and Marillier, engraved by Delignon, Duponchel, etc. The remarks and prefaces are by Garnier.
    Contemporary full blonde porphyry and glazed calf bindings. Smooth decorated spines, roll tooling at head and foot. Green morocco title and volume labels. Triple fillet frame on boards. Slight lack to one title label. Rubbing to headcaps and edges. One wormhole at foot of volume II...

Half red calf bindings, spines with four raised bands adorned with gilt dots and gilt fillets, marbled paper boards, traces of discoloration to margins of some boards, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, speckled edges, contemporary Romantic bindings.
    Work illustrated with a portrait of the author as frontispiece to the first volume.

    It is illustrated with a portrait of the author by Rigaud engraved by Tardieu and 7 fine plates by Moreau and Marillier, engraved by Delignon, Duponchel, etc. The notes and prefaces are by Garnier.

    Handsome copies almost entirely free from foxing, elegantly bound by one of the greatest English binders of the period.
