Collection of anecdotes and amusing stories with 1749 entries; one will encounter many famous figures. This type of collection, originally derived from serious compilations of maxims and sentences from the Ancients, was very popular at the end of the 16th and beginning of the 17th century, some are frankly ribald and bawdy, others more serious and historical like that of Melander, but always oriented toward the amusement and entertainment of the reader.
