Half cherry red morocco mosaic with green and brown corners signed A. Taffin at the top of the first endpaper. Smooth spine with 2 floral compositions in green and brown mosaic in mirror pattern and a central tool with satyr bust. Title within gilt frame, date at foot. Dividing fillets on boards. Light rubbing traces on joints. Covers preserved. Uncut copy with full margins. Very handsome copy of this charming illustrated work. Preface by Maurice de Tourneux who tells the story of this work and reproduces the original preface of the book, a dialogue between publisher and author. This youthful novel telling a love story borrows unusual narrative techniques that look toward Sterne and Diderot and questions the status of narrative fiction in the early 19th century.
