Contemporary half morocco with corners, signed Grouillet at the top of the first endpaper. Light traces of rubbing (spine, joints, corners, edges). Spine uniformly faded to green. Top edge gilt. Covers and spine preserved. Uncut copy with full margins. Paper perfectly fresh.

Considered by many as the author's masterpiece, this realistic novel of manners was quite successful and had several film adaptations from early in its existence.
