Publisher’s (Hetzel’s "elephant and fan") red cloth boards by Engel, polychrome upper cover signed by Engel with the title in a gilt and black fan, several gilt and black frames, a gilt elephant’s head to upper left, three small illustrations of navigation and exploration tools, the whole within a frame of green foliage, lower cover Jauzac’s type “i”, the “lighthouse” spine with several illustrations in gilt and colors, original blue endpapers, all edges gilt.
Headpieces a little rubbed, tiny decolorations to margin of upper cover and a few spots to end of volume, otherwise a very good copy.
