Lacking the 7th p. 168; the 8th p. 174; the 18th p. 384; the 19th p. 392 (furthermore 3 of these engravings are announced in color or sepia printing and are in black in this copy). AJ catalogue in fine. There is only one "golden globe" publisher's binding for this title.
Publisher's binding "Au globe doré" of the 3rd type. Upper plate in good condition with a scraped area above the arms and under the cartouche, soiling to the right of the first Jules Verne cartouche; furthermore the golden globe visibly turns more red than gold. Corners somewhat rubbed. Spine fairly good but slightly faded, with rubbed and folded headcaps; scraped area in the lighthouse vignette. Second cover bearing 3 light dampstains and thin soiling. First color engraving detached. Scattered foxing. 2 leaves slightly protruding. Copy somewhat warped.
Written in 1894 and first published in 1898, Le superbe Orénoque is an adventure novel featuring a girl searching for her father. The novel is based on the accounts of explorer Jean Chaffanjeon who made several journeys on the Orinoco and in this region of the world from 1884 to 1886.
