Bradel binding in half burgundy cloth, smooth spine decorated with a gilt fleuron, double gilt fillet at foot, black sheep title-label with a small lack, headcaps slightly rubbed, marbled paper boards, one interior hinge split, original wrappers preserved, corners slightly bumped, contemporary binding. Work illustrated with medallion portraits of George Sand and Alfred de Musset. Precious autograph inscription signed by Charles Maurras: "A Léon Daudet, cordial hommage de son admirateur et complice. Ch. M." ["To Léon Daudet, cordial tribute from his admirer and accomplice. Ch. M."]
