René Clair seeks to comfort Thierry Maulnier who is presenting his candidacy to the Académie française by assuring him of his vote: "There will certainly be blank ballots or those bearing crosses. This is the price that must be paid by the lone rider. All I can tell you without committing my vote (since regulations forbid it!) is that mine will be neither blank nor decorated."
