The author of this work, born in Grasse in 1767 and died in 1839, was appointed physician to Joseph Bonaparte, King of Naples, in 1806.
His dictionary is a mine of highly valuable information on food products from throughout the world, with historical, literary, anecdotal, scientific, gastronomic, and medical entries. It also contains recipes. This new edition is dedicated to Joseph Napoleon [Bonaparte] and Queen Julie. The first 64 pages, consisting of general considerations on human nutrition, were not included in the first edition. Aulagnier died shortly after its publication (cf. Oberlé).
In our copy, the dedication leaf to King Joseph Napoleon and Queen Julie has been removed.
