First edition illustrated with 24 steel engravings after the Rouargue brothers (views, animated historical scenes) and 12 hand-colored and gummed wooden plates of military costumes, as well as numerous wood-engraved vignettes in text. One folding colored map with plans of the principal cities. The work had been published for the first time in 1844, it was continued until the year 1853 in this edition with some parts in first edition.
Publisher's full red morocco binding signed Tripon. Spine with raised bands decorated with ornamental compartments of foliage. Gilt title. Large central gilt plaque, quintuple framing fillet and thick framing fillet. Interior frieze. All edges gilt. White watered silk endpapers darkened. Some pale foxing on paper that has remained quite white except for a few leaves with scattered worming.
