Autograph letter signed by Roland Dorgelès addressed to Corporal Jean Richard, alias Carlo Rim, written in blue ink (23 lines) in which he evokes the famous comic strip character created by Carlo Rim: "... Que ce M. Virgule (tel qu'en lui-même enfin...) est donc séduisant..." ["... How seductive this M. Virgule is (such as he is at last...)..."] but also his next assignment related to the war that is beginning and which will not allow him to see him soon: "je rentre en Armée de l'Est (correspondant de guerre en principe) et vais repartir dans quelques jours. Dommage que votre petit hôpital ne soit pas dans le secteur..." ["I am returning to the Army of the East (war correspondent in principle) and will leave again in a few days. Too bad your little hospital is not in the sector..."] Finally, Roland Dorgelès pities his friend, far from his family and his pleasant civilian occupations: "... comme vous avez été maheureux, sans Alice et sans Babou, sans le soleil de Sanary, les boules de Saint-Cloud, tout ce que nous aimions et qui manque plus encore dès qu'on l'a perdu.." ["... how unhappy you have been, without Alice and without Babou, without the sun of Sanary, the bowls of Saint-Cloud, all that we loved and which is missed even more once it is lost..."] Central fold mark, two dates inscribed on the verso of the letter: "4. oct.39." and 12 février 40, certainly the date on which the letter was written and that on which Carlo Rim received it. Fine autograph letter from a former WWI soldier to a WWII mobilized soldier
