First edition, printed in a small number of copies, of this offprint from the Revue illustrée de la Terre sainte et de l'Orient chrétien.

The pamphlet is illustrated with black-and-white illustrations in the text and examines the rediscovery in Jerusalem of the "Crypt of the Pater", also known as the "Crypt of the Credo", which had been forgotten for several centuries.

Only 3 copies recorded in the CCF (BnF, Bibliothèque Mazarine, Centre Sèvres).

Small tears with minor loss at head and foot of spine.

Signed presentation inscription by Léon Cré on the verso of the front wrapper to the celebrated archaeologist and Marquis Charles-Jean-Melchior de Vogüé (1829-1916), who wrote extensively on the churches and monuments of the Holy Land.

Loosely inserted and tipped along its left margin to the title page is a two-and-a-half-page autograph letter, dated 8 February 1898 on Sainte-Anne de Jérusalem letterhead, from Léon Cré to Charles-Jean-Melchior de Vogüé, concerning the rediscovery of this celebrated crypt.
