Splendid portrait inscribed by Foujita on his birthday: "A Lolotte Rabinovitz / Avec mes amitiés / Je suis toujours / prêt à toi [sic] / à Yoshinoya New York / ma fête 27 nov 1930". "To Lolotte Rabinovitz / With my friendship / I am always / close to you / at Yoshinoya New York / my birthday 27 Nov 1930".

A substantially cropped print bearing the same penciled number on the back of our photograph (11214), is in the Reutlinger archives at the Bibliothèque nationale de France (Album Reutlinger de portraits divers vol. 53, p.3). We have been unable to find any other examples of this photograph in other public collections. A similar photograph belatedly dedicated to Maurice Chevalier went on sale in 2008.

Original anf fairly large cabinet card photograph. Maupassant was 38 years old when he sat before Nadar's lens in July 1888 (though some sources give 1890 as the date). Two photographs are known from this sitting, one showing his right profile and the other his left profile, as with the present example.

Original albumen print photograph of Charles de Gaulle, wearing the Cross of Lorraine and the insignia of the Free French Forces, likely taken shortly after the Liberation. Studio stamp of Harcourt Paris within the photograph, under mat and light wood frame, with some minor damage to the frame. 

Signed and inscribed by Charles de Gaulle below the portrait: "A M. Jules Guichet / Bien amicalement ! / 19.2.58 / C. de Gaulle". 

First edition, one of 85 numbered copies and 3 hors commerce copies, ours one of the 70 on B.F.K. de Rives paper.

A fine copy complete with its chemise and slipcase in full black cloth, spine of the chemise slightly faded, a small tear at the foot of the lower panel of the slipcase.

Illustrated with 19 original photographs signed in pencil by Henri Maccheroni.

First edition, one of 37 numbered copies, ours one of a few hors commerce copies for collaborators and friends, signed by Man Ray on the justification. 15 photographs on watermarked vélin Montgolfier mounted on guards, each bearing Man Ray’s printed studio stamp (“Épreuve originale atelier Man Ray Paris”). The copy exceptionally contains the original subscription prospectus and an invitation to the book launch exhibition opening night organised by Simone Loliée.

Original photographic portrait of the Arab leader at one of his hideouts in Jordan, taken by reporter Geneviève Chauvel for the French press photography agency Gamma. According to Hubert Henrotte, she was the only photographer Yasser Arafat agreed to meet during that period.

Minor loss to the upper right corner and a few faint folds. Good condition.

Original portrait of the painter Mai Trung Thu, known as Mai-Thu, inscribed on verso with his emblematic monogram in colored pen: "à l'abbé Guéniart en souvenir du séjour au S.U.J.A / Maï Thu / 14.6.57".

In this handsome portrait, Mai-Thu is surrounded by his paintings on silk - no fewer than seven, including a children scene closely related to his 1965 masterpiece (Aguttes sale, September 26, 2023). The great themes that made the Hanoi School painter famous are to be found here: ideal women, children's games, tea ceremonies... Each canvas is carefully framed, often in Mai-Thu's own tireless perfectionist hands.

Probably gifted to the second wife of Maurice Persat, an officer who took part in the Napoleonic Wars as well as Independence upris­ings in Latin America, Spain and Greece, where he bought back a young Turkish slave, Adélé. Back in France, she was placed in a convent under the protec­tion of the governor of Marseille and converted to Catholicism. Persat, a lib­eral and agitator...

L'armoire volante is a film directed by Carlo Rim who was also its screenwriter and dialogue writer; the main roles were played by Fernandel, Berthe Bovy and Pauline Carton.

The set is presented in a cardboard box from the Crumière establishments with manuscript notations by Carlo Rim on the first cover and one edge.
