Rare original portrait of Gustave Eiffel, carbon print mounted with the stamp of the Walery studio on mount.
Signed and inscribed to lower right corner of mount: "Au Camarade Richard Souvenir du banquet du 22 Nbre [18]89 G. Eiffel" (To fellow comrade Richard Souvenir of the banquet from 22 November [18]89 G. Eiffel)
This striking portrait of the engeneering legend was shot in the year of the tower's inauguration. Built on the occasion of the Paris Universal Exhibition, it was the tallest man-made structure at the time, towering 300 meters over the Parisian landscape. Eiffel is also responsible for designing the iron structure of the Statue of Liberty.
