"Cadavre exquis" d'André Breton, photographie originale prise à l'exposition surréaliste de Paris en 1938

This picture depicts the object “Cadavre exquis” by André Breton, which was exhibited in the room adjacent to the main room at the exhibition and surrounded by paintings by René Magritte and sculptures by Hans Arp.

Breton est le grand instigateur de cette grande rétrospective-manifestation créatrice du Surréalisme en 1938 aux côtés d'Eluard. Davantage familier du jeu d'écriture, il s'essaie ici - avec un certain succès - à l'assemblage d'objets en "ronde-bosse". La sculpture composite était entourée des toiles de René Magritte et des sculptures de Hans Arp. Cette commode aux jambes de femme fait un formidable écho à la « rue surréaliste » de l'exposition, peuplée de 15 mannequins « êtres-objets » décorés par Marcel Duchamp, Seligmann, Max Ernst, Joan Miró, Augustín Espinoza, Sonia Mossé, Yves Tanguy, Salvador Dalí, Maurice Henry, Man Ray, Oscar Domínguez, Léo Malet et Marcel Jean.
