First edition, illustrated with 2 folding plates. Two fascicles with 2 title pages featuring a title vignette on the first title. Contemporary half blonde sheep binding. Smooth spine decorated with 3 grotesque compartments and 2 stamps. Red morocco title label. Upper joint cracked, lower joint partially cracked. Foxing. The first fascicle concerns observations on cataract extraction surgery, the second deals with various surgical operations, notably hernia, tracheotomy... These works establish the evolution of surgery in Europe and its progressive ascension, gradually taking a predominant place over medicine. The University of Gottingen was particularly influential.
