Contemporary full glazed brown calf binding. Smooth spine decorated. Red morocco title and volume labels. Large lack along the upper joint of volume I; lacks to joints at head of volume II; scuffs along the joints of volume III; lacks to joints of volume IV; joints cracked at foot of volume V; scuffs along volume VI; most corners bumped. Pope was both the greatest classical poet of England during the first half of the 18th century, universally admired and acclaimed, and a philosopher recognized for his Essay on Man. His translation of Homer remained a classic in England.
