Edition published one year after the original, illustrated with four fine copper-engraved plates by Charles Eisen depicting Nordic types (Icelandic women, a bear hunt, Samoyeds, a Laplander in a sleigh) engraved by Le Mire, one folding map by Bellin, thirteen maps, plans, or views (eight of them folding) engraved by Croissey, as well as a charming engraved title vignette and a headpiece by Le Gouaz.

The first edition, published at The Hague the previous year by Zacharie de Pazzi de Bonneville from a defective copy of the manuscript, contained only 40 plates. Mid-19th-century Bradel binding in full marbled paper boards, smooth spine with title label mounted at the head, sprinkled edges.

A rare work, even in German libraries: it is in fact a summary compiled from the sources mentioned in the title, which were at the time not readily available in German. Johann Adam Bergk (1769–1834), a publicist and translator, was best known for his efforts to popularize idealist philosophy, particularly that of Kant, although his interests extended to many other fields.

First German edition, in part original, of this work devoted to one of Albert Schweitzer's intellectual guides, Johann Sebastian Bach, which he began in 1903 at the age of 28, at the suggestion of the preface's author, his organ professor Charles-Marie Widor. The first edition was published in 1905 in French with 455 pages. The First German edition, recognized by several scholars as constituting an entirely new work, considerably different from the previous edition, appeared in 1908 with 844 pages.

First edition of the complete works of Charles Louis de Secondat, Baron de La Brède and de Montesquieu, edited by François Richer under the supervision of the author's son. Volumes 1 and 2 contain the celebrated Spirit of the Laws, introduced by a headpiece depicting the 1753 Dassier medal and illustrated with two maps—a world map and one of Europe—in the second volume. This copy is enriched with a frontispiece, painted by Jacques de Sève and engraved by Claude-Antoine Littret, from the 1767 London edition, as well as 10 additional pages containing the "Additions" in volume 3.
