First edition published anonymously and presenting the correspondence as real. Full brown marbled and glazed calf binding. Decorated spine with raised bands. Red morocco title label. Spine rubbed with some cracking. 2 corners slightly bumped, 2 others rubbed. Epistolary novel in which a young girl destined for retreat finds herself married against all expectations. The narrative encounters numerous intrigues and twists. This is a moral and educational work in which the author, through the character of Madame Du Montier, addresses the education of girls. Pedagogy held a significant place in the work of Madame Le Prince de Beaumont, who was a governess and author of numerous children's literature works including her famous tales.
