Excellent and curious history of eunuchs within society, based on civil and religious law. Ancillon traces in short chapters the different causes of castration, in East and West, supporting his discourse with numerous anecdotes. The work was composed on the occasion of the marriage of an Italian castrato, the author examining texts and various objections to determine whether or not a eunuch has the right to marry.
