The work is divided in three parts with a specific title page for the second, the third being included in the second: Le codicille, l'esprit ou commentaires des maximes politiques de M. le Maréchal de Bell'Isle ; L'esprit de M le Marechal de Bell'Isle, ou commentaire de son testament politique. Contemporary full marbled brown calf binding. Smooth spine decorated. Red morocco title label. Headcaps worn. Gilt faded. 2 corners slightly bumped. Duke of Belle-Isle, Duke of Gisors, peer of France (1748), knight of the Orders of the King and of the Golden Fleece, prince of the Empire, Marshal of France in 1741, Charles Louis Auguste Fouquet de Belle-Isle became minister of State in 1756 and secretary of State for War in 1758. He is the grandson of Nicolas Fouquet.
