La Guerra di tre mesi

First Italian edition; the work had originally appeared as early as 1806 with the Paris imprint of Gratiot, under the more explicit title: "La Guerra de'tre mesi, o l'Ultima campagna di S. M. l'Imperatore Napoleone".

Only three copies recorded in the CCF (BnF, Poitiers and Rouen, all of the 1806 edition).

Contemporary Bradel-style binding in quarter tan calf with corners, smooth spine decorated with gilt garlands, crimson morocco lettering-piece, rubbing to spine and boards with some loss of paper, yellow edges.

Some foxing; small wormholes to the lower right-hand corner of the final three pages, not affecting the text.

Unlike the author’s other works, this title was never translated into French. It offers a lyrical, even somewhat impassioned account of the 1806 campaign against Prussia and its spectacular opening victories.

The Sicilian historian and economist Abbé Saverio Scrofani (1756-1835), already a Francophile since the Revolution, settled in Paris following the fall of the Republic of Venice and was appointed a corresponding member of the Institut. There he resumed his favourite studies with renewed enthusiasm and published several works that further enhanced his reputation as a historian and economist.

In 1809, he returned to the Kingdom of Naples; however, for as long as Murat remained on the throne, he was unable to secure any official appointment.
