French first edition. Contemporary full marbled and glazed calf binding. Raised spine decorated with 5 fleurons. Red morocco title-label. One crack to the lower joint at head. Response to the letter addressed to the Royal Society of London by John Hill, in which he affirmed and demonstrated that a woman can conceive and give birth without carnal commerce, and that he could thus restore honor to those women who had given birth without having had commerce with their husbands; this response is satirical and full of humor, mocking Hill's system, which, it must be remembered, he had only written to take revenge on the Royal Society of London which had refused his candidacy.
