Poeuf
Handsome copy despite some inevitable foxing due to the properties of this paper.
From the 19th century onwards, the invention of lithography transformed the art of illustration. Artists soon embraced this technique, which offered almost total freedom of creation. The livre d'artiste made its appearance and colour came to shine upon literature...
Work published by the Japanese Ministry of Railways, admirably illustrated with 166 illustrations. This new edition was entirely revised and the illustration is completely new. The Ministry of Railways published this collection from 1923 to 1928; from 1923 to 1925, the collection contained numerous bird's-eye view maps by Yoshida, which were replaced by photographs and now only adorn the pastedowns. This is the first collection to use photography with 126 black and white photographs and 18 hand-colored ones. 22 color prints by Hatsusaburo Yoshida. 7 folding color maps and several black and white maps in-text.
Cloth binding and cardboard slipcase. Pale green cloth covers. Smooth spine with title. Boards printed with a Japanese temple with full moon and trees on the first board and on the second. Illustrated cardboard slipcase with Mount Fuji and birds. Rubbing and dulled edges to the slipcase. Small cut to the cloth on the spine. Fine condition of the collection with some foxing. Spine darkened, boards spotted. Handsome copy, rare with its original slipcase.
A vast undertaking, this guide was intended as a monument to the glory of Japan. For the first time, modern Japan meets traditional Japan. Celebrated as the Hiroshige of the Taisho era, Yoshida (1884-1955) was a painter and cartographer. A major retrospective of his works took place in Japan at the Sakai Museum in 1999. The prints created for this collection are particularly beautiful.

This work belongs to the first phase of the highly controversial research conducted by the French surgeon of Russian origin, Sergueï Abramovitch Voronoff (1866–1951).
Between 1917 and 1926, Voronoff carried out more than five hundred transplantations on sheep, goats, and even a bull, grafting the testicles of younger animals onto older ones.
His observations appeared to suggest that such transplantations restored vitality to ageing animals. From this, he went on to regard the transplantation of monkey glands as an effective treatment for human senility, leading him toward increasingly hazardous experimental grafts performed on humans.
Signed autograph inscription by Serge Voronoff on the half-title: "To Monsieur Ch. Homassel, with kind regards. S. Voronoff" (our own translation).

Rare first edition of this sticker album entirely devoted to the glory of the Castro regime and the Cuban Revolution.
The album comprises 268 small, mounted, colour stickers, each captioned and arranged in strict chronological order of events, including 16 portrait plates of the principal figures (the Castro brothers, Camilo Cienfuegos, Ernesto "Che" Guevara, Faure Chaumont, Rolando Cubelas, Victor Bordon, Eloy Gutierrez, Crecencio and Faustino Perez, etc.).
No copy recorded in the CCFr, which comes as little surprise for this type of production.
Our copy, issued in original illustrated colour wrappers, is housed in a modern oblong slipcase, full decorated boards in the colours of the Cuban flag.
Minor tears and marginal losses to the covers and spine, together with numerous unavoidable restorations using transparent adhesive repairs, reflecting the extreme fragility of this sticker album intended for "older children".
This very rare album, complete with all its stickers, was produced to commemorate the successive stages of the Cuban Revolution. It belongs to the genre of collectible sticker albums for children and young people, hugely popular in the 1960s: the images were obtained with the purchase of consumer goods and served as promotional incentives (in this case, the "dulces en conserva" marketed under the Felices brand).
Unsurprisingly, the portrayal of the Revolution is entirely partisan and conforms to the heroic and liberating image the regime sought to project.
On the verso of the final cover, one finds a speech by Fidel Castro dated 16 October 1953.
