Numerous scenes of particularly violent combat, with decapitations and gushing blood; Court scenes. The figure of Sadahide is remarkably finely rendered and detailed, the grey and black wash adding contrast and depth.

The illustrations include an appliqué frontispiece portrait on China paper and 116 color plates of costumes (hand-painted and laid down).
Half red shagreen, spine decorated with compartments, fillets to covers, spines uniformly sunned. Corners bumped. Rubbing. Faint spotting to silk-paper guards of first volume and occasionally to margins near silk paper guards, but overall a very fresh copy.
