It is well known that Young's Nights enjoyed considerable success and many editions. Le Tourneur's famous translation accentuated the lugubrious side and the emphasis of the original, and contributed in France to making the work more famous than in England, making Young the leader of a new dark and pre-Romantic poetic school whose roots originated with Milton. Even his tragedies were considered the finest plays of the time, notably Revenge, an imitation of Othello, and he is considered to have been one of the principal figures of eighteenth-century English poetry at the origin of Romanticism.

First edition, published by Pierre-Simon Ballanche, of the intimate correspondence of Louise-Adélaïde de Bourbon, known as Mademoiselle de Condé, addressed to her friend the Marquis Nicolas-Louis Magon La Gervaisais. It contains 2 letters of 4 pages each, in facsimile.

Barnabé Farmian Durosy or de Rozoi (1745-1792) was a journalist and man of letters from Toulouse, at once playwright, poet, novelist, historian and essayist. Founder and editor of a royalist daily newspaper in 1789, he was the first journalist to die by guillotine under the Terror. Henri IV ou la Bataille d'Ivry was deemed worthy of some twenty performances in Paris, Versailles, Toulouse and Brussels between 1774 and 1795. Antoine Rivarol seems to have been the only one to show enthusiasm for his lyrical work. It was necessary, wrote the author of Discours sur l'universalité de la langue française in 1788, for "poetic youth" to forget "the Voltaires, the Racines and the Corneilles" and take as model the one whose name "flies from mouth to mouth on the wing of vaudeville."
