Melchissedec did not receive the photograph commissioned from Carjat by Hugo and promised in thanks for his participation.

The manuscript of Gaz I is housed in a kraft paper envelope bearing autograph annotations and the signature of Jacques Benoist-Méchin.

Some very minor tears and creases, a few leaves lightly browned and soiled; otherwise a very well-preserved set.

Enclosed are three further documents relating to Jacques Benoist-Méchin: the contract assigning to the music publisher B. Roudanez the rights to his musical work for voice and piano based on poems by Jules Romains, and two letters addressed to him, with their envelopes.
