Precious and beautiful autograph signed by French Stefan Zweig to Jules Romains, "In the expensive Jules Romains, which I like as a friend and I admire as a master. Stefan Zweig. "Enriched by autograph dedication of the author an autograph signed by the translator, Alzir Hella:" A Jules Romains, the part of the author and cordially Alzir Hella. "
Stefan Zweig had met Jules Romains attending members of the Créteil Abbey in the early twentieth century and the two men were quickly linked to a strong friendship. Love one another as a cosmopolitan Europe, they met regularly at the option of multiple crossings of the Old Continent, Hyeres to Berlin via Paris, Vienna or Salzburg.
In 1925, Zweig discovered the room Elizabethan Volpone Ben Jonson and adapted it in German. He convinced the Romans, who had attended a performance at the Burgtheater in Vienna to draft a French version. The two writers worked on it together, in close cooperation; this version was given by Charles Dullin at the Workshop Theatre in 1928 and was a huge success.
While the tragedy of war had removed the two men, Romans, for sixty years Zweig - a few months before his suicide - paid him tribute in a book entitled Stefan Zweig, large European (New York, Editions of French House, 1941), which he had sent an autographed copy bound in full morocco.
This is the Alzir Hella translator, author of the second shipment to Jules Romains, that France owes much to his love of Stefan Zweig: "Man, wrote to him one day the Austrian, you have all my work in hand, you the only one that does. "
Rare copy with a dedication autograph valuable witness to the friendship between these two great pacifists that were Stefan Zweig and Jules Romains.
