These historical memoirs essentially cover the end of the 16th century and the beginning of Henri IV's reign and various later events (notably disputes between the queen and young Louis XIII), they contain, besides the narration of events, various documents including numerous letters. Pierre Jeannin was initially a lawyer and student of the great jurist Cujas, he became president of the parliament of Burgundy in 1580, then became counselor to the Duke of Mayenne, this involvement in League affairs did not prevent him from becoming state counselor and member of the Finance council (1598), he negotiated the Treaty of Lyon with Savoy (1601) and became extraordinary ambassador of Henri IV to the revolted Netherlands in 1607. At the king's death, Marie de Medici appointed him superintendent general of finances.

L'Étoile du Sud is an adventure novel by Paschal Grousset, sold to publisher Hetzel, then reworked and signed by Jules Verne. The action takes place in Griqualand in South Africa where mining engineer Cyprien Méré conducts organic chemistry studies on diamond deposits. He succeeds in creating a synthetic diamond, the black star, which many will seek to appropriate.

First French edition of this important study. Translation from English with notes by MM. Verhulst and A. Quetelet. The second volume is from 1833. The significant publication delay between the first and second volumes allowed for some remarkable additions: Supplement to the treatise on light by Quetelet, p. 336-602 of volume 2, in which the latter exposes recent research in optics. The illustration comprises 15 folding plates. The treatise on light had only appeared in the form of articles in the Philosophical transactions, and this is its first edition in volume form to which Herschel contributed with his corrections.
Full olive green sheep bindings, slightly later ca 1840. Smooth spines decorated with geometric arabesques in long grain. Boards stamped in blind with a large floral plate, central medallion on the upper board of the Royal College of Orleans with laurel crown. Spines sunned and turned light brown with traces of discoloration and rubbing. Corners and edges rubbed. On the pastedown, price label dated 1845. Scattered browning except on the plates, which are very fresh.
Sir William Herschel was a British astronomer. Herschel demonstrated the existence of infrared radiation by analyzing sunlight using a prism and thermometer. He also found the first evidence that light and infrared are two aspects of the same phenomenon, now called electromagnetic radiation. The term infrared only appeared around 1880, Herschel used that of "Radiant heat".

One of the very rare copies enriched with an autograph - there are fewer than a dozen - of this first edition, featuring the Marseillaise.
First edition illustrated with an engraving inset engraved by Charles-Etienne Gaucher after Jean-Jacques Le Barbier and 4 pages of score engraved at the end of the volume. The Marseillaise appears in its real first edition, having been the subject of a pre-publication in the Almanac of the Muses in 1793 and in the form of loose leaflets.
Binding semi-sheepskin contemporary, smooth back adorned with boxes, jewels and gilded lace, title label red morocco, black cardboard boards. Several ex-libris handwritten or glued on the contreplat and the guards. Back restored, some foxinges. The last two letters of the dedicatee's name have been trimmed to binding.
The book is enriched on the fake page of an exceptional autograph from Rouget de L'Isle to another artist of the Revolution: "M de La Chabeaussie [re] / from the author".
Rouget de Lisle and Poisson de la Chabeaussière, the recipient of the consignment, both embodied the revolutionary fervor and marked Republican history by their pen.
The Marseillaise appears in the book on page [PAGE?] Among other poems and songs. This first edition delivers the famous song in its original state. It comprises six quatrains, as written by Captain Rouget de l'Isle for the Army of the Rhine in April 1792, then instituted national anthem in 1795 by the decree of 26 Messidor year III.
Paroliers and men of letters, Rouget de l'Isle and Chabeaussière were the zealous servants of the Revolution but also the victims of its excesses. At the writing of this dedication, in year V of the Republic, the two men are at the summit of their glory. One is the author of the national anthem that thrills revolutionary France, and the other the most popular republican catechism during the Revolution. Indeed, the Chabeaussière also composes a major work of the revolutionary inheritance: a republican, philosophical and moral Catechism , reissued 82 times until the Third Republic, and which promoted it to the Executive Commission of the public instruction . Like Rouget de L'Isle, he has enjoyed success as a lyricist and librettist, notably for the comic operas of Nicolas Delayrac. The history of La Marseillaise meets from its creation that of La Chabeaussière and the composer Delayrac, whose air offers a certain resemblance to the heroic drama of Delayrac entitled Sargines or the Student of love .
Neither La Chabeaussière nor Rouget de l'Isle, despite the celebrity of his Marseillaise, escaped the throes of Terror. Declared "suspects", they were incarcerated in 1793 respectively in the prison of Madelonettes and Saint-Germain-en-Laye. At the end of these dark hours, the two men lead a peaceful existence and continue to actively collaborate in the Almanac des Muses , which published La Marseillaise for the first time in volume.
At the death of the Chabeaussière in 1820, the copy knows a story of the most romantic. He always carries [OR?] The inscription of his second owner, Edouard Gendron: "This book was bought in 1821 - at a crossroads near the medical school square, among a pile of scrap metal".

First publication by his composer of the most famous symbol of the French Republic: La Marseillaise . His precious dedication brings together revolutionary poets with crossed destinies, whose writings left their immortal borrowed in the history of France.

First collected edition of Regnard's works. This edition reproduces the text from the original editions but without the title page. The first edition of Le Légataire universel, dated 1708, and La critique du légataire, also from 1708, were added at the end of volume II. The edition contains an engraved half-title, a frontispiece for each play in volume I, a frontispiece for Democrite and one for Les Menechmes. It appears that the one for Les folies amoureuses is missing. Le légataire universel has a frontispiece and a title vignette. According to Brunet, these works appeared in 1714 with a title page dated 1708.

Contemporary bottle-green glazed full calf binding. Spine with false raised bands decorated with 4 cold-tooled stamps and fillets on the bands; roulettes at foot. Large central cold-tooled medallion on boards with monastic-type ornaments, wide cold-tooled border frieze and triple ruled frame. Double interior fillet. Marbled edges. A trace of pale dampstain on the frontispiece and one plate. The paper in the middle of the book is relatively warped, bearing witness to humidity, otherwise a superb copy in an elegant Romantic binding.
Attributed to Clotilde de Surville, a noble lady of the 15th century, these naive and graceful poems dealing with love and war were first published in 1803 by Charles Vanderbourg, but their authenticity was very quickly contested due to certain anachronisms. In this second edition responding to the criticisms, Vanderbourg endeavors, in an important justificatory preface, to defend the medieval origin of the manuscript. It appears today that the publisher was totally innocent of this deception, whose true author would be the Marquis Joseph-Etienne de Surville (1755-1798). This royalist conspirator, shot during the Revolution, would have composed this troubadour pastiche in emigration, borrowing the name of his ancestress. This collection had a very great success at the time and had a considerable influence on Romanticism.

Doctor Louis Caltat was charged in 1888 with a scientific exploration mission to Madagascar by the Ministry of Public Instruction. He traveled 8000 km during three voyages. Upon his return, he wrote this book very rich in descriptions, covering customs, geography, peoples, commerce... This voyage had originally appeared in the famous review Le tour du monde over several issues.

The first "oeuvres meslées" appeared in 1668, without the content of pieces being similar from one volume to another. Barbin would thus publish several collections titled "Oeuvres meslées," sometimes adding new pieces. Ornamental headpieces, tailpieces and decorated initials. Privilege of 1688. This edition is often presented as a first edition and perhaps certain texts are indeed so here; in any case, Barbin required a new privilege to publish his work.

Here is what Brunet writes about the author: "Saint-Evremont attached his name to no important work, but almost all his writings are distinguished by an original style, by observations full of finesse, and by piquant criticisms." This edition contains 38 texts or parts. According to Barbin's notice, some appear for the first time. The first editions, according to Brunet, contained only 11 or 12 parts in a small duodecimo volume.
