First edition magnificently illustrated with 62 steel engravings by Bartlett including a frontispiece and engraved title, all on laid paper. Introduction by Baron Taylor. One map. Half red morocco binding with shagreen corners circa 1860 signed by Amand. Jansenist spine with raised bands. Gilt title. Rubbing to head and edges. One scratch to a corner. Small dark stains on the leather of the upper cover. Very fresh throughout except for some very rare browning, notably to the margins of 2 plates which contain numerous examples.
