Contemporary binding in half black shagreen with corners, spine with four false raised bands elaborately gilt in compartments, paper boards in the manner of cardboard highlighted with double gilt fillets, marbled endpapers and pastedowns. Some rubbing, marginal foxing.

Half red morocco binding with shagreen corners circa 1860 signed by Amand. Jansenist spine with raised bands. Gilt title. Rubbing to head and edges. One scratch to a corner. Small dark stains on the leather of the upper cover. Very fresh throughout except for some very rare browning, notably to the margins of 2 plates which contain numerous examples. Full-margined copy, uncut.
