First duodecimo edition, with a revised version, after the original of 1833 and 1834. It comprises two short novels: Ferragus and La duchesse de Langeais (which takes this title in this edition after Ne touchez pas la hâche). About the Charpentier editions, which form a sort of first collected edition, Clouzot states: "A collection of great interest because for all texts, it presents a revised version, often profoundly so. Increasingly sought after, they have nevertheless remained (for how much longer?) very reasonably priced." Guide du bibliophile français. XIXe siècle.
Contemporary half glazed red calf binding. Smooth spines decorated with a large mirror tool mosaic in red and black in Restoration style. Series of fillets, monastic rolls at head and foot. Moiré and glazed red paper on the boards. Traces of rubbing, particularly on the boards, corners and edges. Scattered pale foxing. Micro crack to upper joint at foot
