First collected edition large octavo illustrated with 38 drawings by George Roux, 6 large chromotypographs and one map. Publisher's Hetzel binding signed Engel known as "au globe" type 3, lighthouse spine, second cover type Engel "h" according to Jauzac, all edges gilt. Spine uniformly lightened, some very minor stains on the second cover and slight discoloration to lower margin of the first, corners slightly twisted without significance. Original blue endpapers marginally lightened as usual. Le Village aérien is a fantasy and adventure novel set in the African jungle. Two white explorers accompanied by a native and a black child discover an unknown tribe living in the trees. The perspective of geopolitical evolution of the territories where the plot unfolds allows us to understand the evolutionist debate raging in the 19th century. Les Histoires de Jean-Marie Cabidoulin relates the adventures of the Saint-Enoch, a whaler leaving Le Havre bound for the Pacific Ocean. Among the crew, an old pessimistic sailor constantly tells his companions the most frightful stories about the ocean and its monsters. Then mysterious events occur, becoming increasingly frequent.
