New illustrated edition with 8 etchings by Tony Johannot bearing the artist's name engraved with the point, on China paper mounted. These illustrations belong to the first illustrated edition of 1845, 2 are artist's proofs without Johannot's name added by him. Printed on laid paper. Half old red shagreen binding with corners signed Petit at the top of the first endpaper. Spine with raised bands richly decorated with elaborately gilt compartments. Red shagreen title label. Top edge gilt. Uncut copy, full-margined, perfectly fresh. Spine slightly faded. Handsome copy from the sale of Jacques Crépineau's library, without his bookplate but with a bookmark from L'Etude Ader reproducing the bookplate (11/10/2021). Director of the Michodière theater and theater historian, he held a famous collection of Romantic books.
