New edition, illustrated with 40 color illustrations after watercolors by Maurice Leloir, including 29 in-text and 11 full-page, printed in chromotypography. Leaves entirely mounted on guards.
Publisher's green and gold boards. Smooth spine with gilt title running lengthwise. Large special polychrome and gilt plate on the upper cover depicting Richelieu in armor under his cardinal's habit. Plate signed J. Fau. Binding signed Poensin. Headcap and joints rubbed, edges and corners as well. Corners turned. Paper very fresh, free of foxing. 2 micro tears along the lower joint, caused by rubbing, the fabric is composed of threads. A dark comma mark on the lower cover. Binding slightly loose, with some play.
