First edition published under the pseudonym of Loyson-Bridet, one of the copies from the first printing bearing, on the justification page, Schwob's personal vignette: a goose holding a quill in its beak. Half black shagreen binding, smooth spine decorated with gilt floral and typographical motifs, light rubbing to spine, scratches to marbled paper boards, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, original wrappers preserved, corners slightly bumped, contemporary binding. A small stain at foot of title page and on the facing page. Signed autograph inscription from Marcel Schwob, under his pseudonym of Loyson-Bridet: "A Emile Despax, son ami. Loyson Bridet."
