First edition on ordinary paper, with the correct imprint date of 25 September 1951, false "fifth thousand" statement of edition on the title page.
A small restored tear to the margin of the front cover, joints skilfully restored.

Presentation copy, signed and inscribed by Julien Gracq to Madame Renaudon: "...in memory of her smiling kindness amid the work of disasters..."

The dedicatee of this precious inscription may be Renée Renaudon, secretary of the Théâtre Montparnasse. Julien Gracq premiered his only play Le Roi pêcheur at this very theatre on 25 April 1949.
