First edition. Half red shagreen binding, split headcaps, spine with four raised bands decorated with gilt motifs, publisher's binding. Contributions by Louis Gonse, Ludovic Lalanne, Duranty, Anatole de Montaiglon, Charles Blanc, Champfleury, Charles Yriarte and Paul Chéron among others; etching by Paul Renouard. Review illustrated with numerous black and white plates. La Gazette des beaux-arts is a French art review, founded in 1859 by Édouard Houssaye, with Charles Blanc as editor-in-chief; it ceased publication in 2002. For nearly one hundred and fifty years it was a worldwide reference in art history.
