First edition. Half red shagreen binding, split headcaps, spine with four raised bands decorated with gilt motifs, publisher's binding. Contributions by Anatole de Montaiglon, Paul Mantz, Louis Gonse, Alfred Lostalot, Paul Lefort, Ludovic Lalanne, Duranty and Paul Chéron; etching attributed to Rubens, original etching by Francesco Paolo Michetti. Review illustrated with numerous black and white hors-texte engravings. The Gazette des beaux-arts is a French art review, founded in 1859 by Édouard Houssaye, with Charles Blanc as editor-in-chief; it ceased publication in 2002. For nearly one hundred and fifty years it was a world reference in art history.
