First edition. Half red shagreen binding, split headcaps, spine with four raised bands decorated with gilt ornament, publisher's binding. Contributions by Alfred Darcel, Anatole de Montaiglon, Duranty, Ludovic Lalanne, Paul Lefort, Louis Gonse, Paul Mantz and Paul Chéron among others; original etching by Edwin Edwards notably. Review illustrated with numerous black and white hors-texte engravings. The Gazette des beaux-arts is a French art review, founded in 1859 by Édouard Houssaye, with Charles Blanc as editor-in-chief; it ceased publication in 2002. For nearly one hundred and fifty years it was a world reference in art history.
