First edition. Half red shagreen binding, corners slightly bumped, covers scuffed, headcaps torn, spine gilt and blind, spine with five raised bands, publisher's binding. Contributions by Paul Mantz, Alfred de Lostalot and Duranty among others. Journal illustrated with numerous black and white engravings hors-texte, including one folding plate (see photograph). La Gazette des beaux-arts is a French art journal, founded in 1859 by Édouard Houssaye, with Charles Blanc as editor-in-chief; it ceased publication in 2002. For nearly one hundred and fifty years it was a worldwide reference in art history.
