First edition. Half chocolate shagreen binding, corners slightly bumped, covers scratched, headcaps severely damaged, relatively significant lacks to both covers, spine with five raised bands, publisher's binding. Contributions by Paul Mantz, Alfred de Lostalot and Duranty among others; fine heliogravure by Eugène Sadoux printed separately from the text, as well as several heliographies by Honoré Daumier. Magazine illustrated with numerous black and white engravings printed separately from the text, including one folding plate (see photograph). La Gazette des beaux-arts is a French art magazine, founded in 1859 by Édouard Houssaye, with Charles Blanc as editor-in-chief; it ceased publication in 2002. For nearly one hundred and fifty years it was a worldwide reference in art history.
