First edition. Half red shagreen binding, headcaps torn, spine with four raised bands decorated in blind, minor lacks to boards, publisher's binding. Contributions by Charles Clément, Georges Duplessis, Paul Mantz, Louis Gonse, Champfleury, Alfred Darcel, Emile Galichon, Alfred Michiels, Duranty and Paul Chéron among others. Our copy is incomplete, lacking the engraving by Adolphe Appian (p 47). Journal illustrated with numerous black and white plates. The Gazette des beaux-arts is a French art journal, founded in 1859 by Édouard Houssaye, with Charles Blanc as editor-in-chief; it ceased publication in 2002. For nearly one hundred and fifty years it was a worldwide reference in art history.
