First edition. Half red shagreen binding, headcaps damaged, corners slightly bumped, spine with four raised bands stamped in cold gilt, publisher's binding. Contributions by Charles Blanc, Paul Mantz, Duranty and Paul Chéron among others; etching by Augustin Feyen-Perrin notably. Review illustrated with numerous black and white plates, as well as a folding plate (see photograph). La Gazette des beaux-arts is a French art review, founded in 1859 by Édouard Houssaye, with Charles Blanc as editor-in-chief; it ceased publication in 2002. For nearly one hundred and fifty years it was a worldwide reference in art history.
