First edition. Half red shagreen binding, headcaps severely damaged, some minor lacks to boards without consequence, spine with four raised bands gilt in blind and detached, publisher's binding. Contributions by Paul Mantz, Alfred Michiels, Philippe Burty, Charles Blanc, Emile Galichon, Albert Jacquemart, Charles Clément and Paul Chéron among others; etching by Léonce Chabry among others. Review illustrated with numerous black and white plates. The Gazette des beaux-arts is a French art review, founded in 1859 by Édouard Houssaye, with Charles Blanc as editor-in-chief; it ceased publication in 2002. For nearly one hundred and fifty years it was a worldwide reference in art history.
