This work deals with the Peninsular War, or the Toulouse campaign.

The volume constitutes an excellent account of the conquest of Andalusia, then in rebellion against King Joseph, as far as Malaga (which would fall) and Cadiz (which would remain free until the end of the French occupation).

At the time, the author was a young captain attached to the 2nd division of the 5th Army Corps.
