First edition illustrated with 2 portraits of the Cléry brothers as frontispiece, lithographed by Morin. Complete title: Mémoires de P. L. Hanet Cléry, ancien valet de chambre de Madame Royale, aujourd'hui Dauphine, et frère de Cléry, dernier valet de chambre de Louis XVI; Munitionnaire général des armées, agent général des hôpitaux militaires à Saint-Domingue, conservateur des forêts dans l'ile de Corse, etc., Chevalier de la Légion-d'Honneur. Contemporary half brown binding. Smooth spine decorated with fillets. Gilt titles and volume numbers. Minor crack to upper joint at head of volume 1 extending a few mm. Traces of rubbing, notably to corners. Leather used for volume 2 lighter than that of volume 1. Brown stains to lower margins p. 125 and following 2 pages, in volume 1. Scattered pale browning, mainly in margins, essentially in the first volume. Good copy. Famous memoirs of the valet de chambre to the Duchess of Angoulême, daughter of Louis XVI, during the Revolution; Cléry left the Tuileries on August 10th and shortly after took refuge in Belgium. In appendix, Table of losses and sums owed by the government to Cléry.
