Journalist and historian, Horace Raisson, whose full name was Horace-Napoléon Raisson seemed destined to write this history which declares itself objective and simple. Due to its format and type of edition, it was quite popular.

Third original edition: "In reality, an entirely new work, completely rewritten by Stendhal and expanded by one volume" (cf Clouzot).
The second edition was in fact only a reissue, after a few weeks, of the original edition with a new title page bearing publisher Colburn's address and mention of "second edition". This "third edition" is therefore the true second original edition, much more complete than the first.

"Of first order for Bonaparte's youth, but only for this period. Does not Marmont declare that he admires the young officer and despises the Emperor? These very detailed memoirs on all the campaigns of the Duke of Raguse therefore call for many reservations not only because of the late nature of their composition but also because of their desire to constantly present the author in a favorable light compared to Napoleon. This plea was refuted by Laurent de l'Ardèche in 1857". Tulard, 963. Very well documented work. Second lieutenant at 15, Marmont is already captain when he meets young Bonaparte at Toulon. He becomes his aide-de-camp and follows the general to Italy, then to Egypt.

Signed autograph letter by the British sculptor sir Francis Leggatt Chantrey, to the Saint-Paul Cathedral's committee, about his four monuments to military heroes from the Napoleonic wars commissioned by the government.
Sir Chantrey, leading portrait sculptor in Regency era Britain, carved the portraits of Major-General Daniel Hoghton, Major-General Bowes, and Colonel Henry Cadogan, and (in a single monument) Major-Generals Gore and Skerrett.
He gives in this letter an estimate for five marble statues of generals from the British army, four of which have ultimately not been selected by the committee and replaced by other names.

The imperial decree, which took place during the Hundred Days, concerns a softening of the taxation regime for beverages. The pamphlet contains all the articles that regulate behaviors related to beverages: harvests, unions, entry duties, storage, license tariffs for brewers and others...

A treatise on military defense and attack strategy. It draws on concrete examples situated on a plain, at a ford, on a bridge, in a castle or a village.
The work concludes with a Summary for representing military plans, dealing with colors appropriate for wash drawings of plans, their use, and a short treatise on the Construction of military perspective.
The book is particularly remarkable for its illustration. Louis Marin Bonnet perfected the process of crayon manner engraving in the 1770s. The instructions given by Fossé for wash drawings are taken into account for the color printing of these prints. Bonnet attributed the invention to himself, calling himself "first engraver of this type"; in fact, he improved upon the process created by his master Demarteau. Nevertheless, Bonnet perfected printing with two crayons (black heightened with white) and printing in miniature or pastel manner, thus becoming a direct competitor to the Gautier-Dagoty.

Political history of Europe from 1786 to 1815. The author studies the politics of the cabinets of all the great powers in their conduct of war against the French Revolution. The author shows how the Revolution in France overturned the old political and moral world of Europe. The second part of the work, which we owe to d'Allonville, deals in turn with Europe during the First Empire and the change that took place in European politics. Both authors seek to capture the secrets of history's march, meticulously retracing how the upheavals of the Revolution and Empire came about. An officer since 1778 in an infantry regiment of the king's army, François-Armand d'Allonville exercised military functions as far as Russia during the Empire; it was when he returned to France in 1828 that he assisted Alphonse de Beauchamp in various historical works.

A Spanish general of Belgian origin, Van Halen served from 1808 to 1813 on the staff of King Joseph Bonaparte in Spain, then became a general in Spain, this time against the French, a Russian colonel in the Caucasus and active mercenary in several conflicts, notably working in the 1830 Revolution in Belgium where he is a national hero. Between 1817 and 1818 he was a prisoner of the Spanish Inquisition and suffered torture, then managed to escape and reached London. After a few months, this tireless adventurer left to seek service in Russia, the account of which occupies the second volume.

One of the very rare copies enriched with an autograph - there are fewer than a dozen - of this first edition, featuring the Marseillaise.
First edition illustrated with an engraving inset engraved by Charles-Etienne Gaucher after Jean-Jacques Le Barbier and 4 pages of score engraved at the end of the volume. The Marseillaise appears in its real first edition, having been the subject of a pre-publication in the Almanac of the Muses in 1793 and in the form of loose leaflets.
Binding semi-sheepskin contemporary, smooth back adorned with boxes, jewels and gilded lace, title label red morocco, black cardboard boards. Several ex-libris handwritten or glued on the contreplat and the guards. Back restored, some foxinges. The last two letters of the dedicatee's name have been trimmed to binding.
The book is enriched on the fake page of an exceptional autograph from Rouget de L'Isle to another artist of the Revolution: "M de La Chabeaussie [re] / from the author".
Rouget de Lisle and Poisson de la Chabeaussière, the recipient of the consignment, both embodied the revolutionary fervor and marked Republican history by their pen.
The Marseillaise appears in the book on page [PAGE?] Among other poems and songs. This first edition delivers the famous song in its original state. It comprises six quatrains, as written by Captain Rouget de l'Isle for the Army of the Rhine in April 1792, then instituted national anthem in 1795 by the decree of 26 Messidor year III.
Paroliers and men of letters, Rouget de l'Isle and Chabeaussière were the zealous servants of the Revolution but also the victims of its excesses. At the writing of this dedication, in year V of the Republic, the two men are at the summit of their glory. One is the author of the national anthem that thrills revolutionary France, and the other the most popular republican catechism during the Revolution. Indeed, the Chabeaussière also composes a major work of the revolutionary inheritance: a republican, philosophical and moral Catechism , reissued 82 times until the Third Republic, and which promoted it to the Executive Commission of the public instruction . Like Rouget de L'Isle, he has enjoyed success as a lyricist and librettist, notably for the comic operas of Nicolas Delayrac. The history of La Marseillaise meets from its creation that of La Chabeaussière and the composer Delayrac, whose air offers a certain resemblance to the heroic drama of Delayrac entitled Sargines or the Student of love .
Neither La Chabeaussière nor Rouget de l'Isle, despite the celebrity of his Marseillaise, escaped the throes of Terror. Declared "suspects", they were incarcerated in 1793 respectively in the prison of Madelonettes and Saint-Germain-en-Laye. At the end of these dark hours, the two men lead a peaceful existence and continue to actively collaborate in the Almanac des Muses , which published La Marseillaise for the first time in volume.
At the death of the Chabeaussière in 1820, the copy knows a story of the most romantic. He always carries [OR?] The inscription of his second owner, Edouard Gendron: "This book was bought in 1821 - at a crossroads near the medical school square, among a pile of scrap metal".

First publication by his composer of the most famous symbol of the French Republic: La Marseillaise . His precious dedication brings together revolutionary poets with crossed destinies, whose writings left their immortal borrowed in the history of France.

First edition of the first two speeches, the following two are manuscript and unpublished. It is possible that they are in the hand of citizen Mulot himself, or his secretary; these are in any case original unpublished works.

Mainz was the capital of the Austro-Hungarian offensive intended to destroy the French Revolution, but the offensive of the French army, notably at the Battle of Valmy, put an end to these pretensions. The French army marched on Mainz and made it a republic, the first democratic republic of Germany, but Prussian and Austrian forces retook the city in April 1793. Although the city was retaken, Mainz remained the chief town of the Mont-Tonnerre department, which was not returned to Prussia until 1814. The imperials left the city in 1794 and the French armies led by General Bonaparte returned the Prussian territory to France. It is not known when Mulot settled in Mainz, but he worked in his own way to transform the city and make it a French city, as these speeches honoring the French Revolution testify. Abbé Mulot was before the Revolution prior and librarian of Saint-Victor abbey, he became a deputy and had an active role in the Revolution, his role in massacres in Provence earned him dismissal as deputy but he continued his activities by joining the Society of Theophilanthropy, a sort of Christian moral association intended to weaken Catholicism in France.
A fine testimony to the French presence in Germany during the revolutionary period by an important actor.

Our copy is enriched by an exceptional autograph letter signed by a page of Maximilian Lamarque, at the head of his staff, written at his headquarters in Nantes on August 15, 1830 and in which he takes surprisingly the defense of officers who violated the orders of the colonel of the 10th Light Infantry Regiment to whom this letter is addressed and who went as far as to desert: "... some of the officers who left you on the road to Ancenis, fear to be badly received by you, for the reason that you may judge, that they have failed in discipline.I warn you that I approve in all their conduct, that I would have done like them if I have been in your regiment, that I will do all that will depend on me, to make them have rewards, and that you will be in my eyes responsible for all that can happen to them of unpleasant in the body that you order.
There are circumstances in which the love of the country and of liberty, where the fear of making war on one's country, makes it possible to break all ties and to trample under foot all the ordinances. Those in which we found ourselves have in my eyes this number.
On the sidelines of this letter, an observer expresses his astonishment about this antimilitarist letter of a hero of the Revolution and the Empire.
